Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe has shared insights into her decision to embrace Islam following her marriage to a Muslim husband.
Speaking in an interview with Oyinmomo TV on YouTube, she opened up about her journey of religious conversion, the challenges she has encountered along the way, and her commitment to adapting to her new faith.
Aigbe, who was previously a Christian, explained that her decision to convert was deeply personal and not influenced by any form of pressure from her husband. She emphasized that he has always been an understanding and tolerant partner who never imposed his religious beliefs on her. However, after much thought and reflection, she felt that embracing Islam would strengthen her bond with him and enrich her spiritual journey.
“I’m someone who is very determined, and once I make up my mind about something, I go all in, no matter what people say,” Aigbe stated during the interview. She clarified that her husband remained a devoted Muslim when they met while she practiced Christianity, and at no point did he compel her to change her faith. Instead, the decision was entirely hers, driven by a desire for unity in her marriage and a deeper understanding of Islamic teachings.
Aigbe also shared that one of the most significant challenges she has faced since converting is the commitment to performing the five daily prayers, a fundamental pillar of Islam. She admitted that adjusting to this routine has been tough, as she sometimes struggles to complete all the prayers on time.
“One of the hardest parts for me has been keeping up with the five daily prayers. It’s something I’m still trying to get used to, but I’m making progress,” she revealed.
Despite the challenges, Aigbe expressed confidence in her decision, stating that she believes both Muslims and Christians worship the same God. This belief, she said, made her transition into Islam easier and gave her a sense of peace in her choice.
Her revelation has sparked discussions among her fans and followers, with many commending her for openly sharing her experience. Some praised her determination to embrace a new faith despite the difficulties, while others appreciated her perspective on religious unity and tolerance.
Aigbe’s story sheds light on the personal sacrifices and adjustments that often accompany interfaith marriages. Her willingness to speak candidly about her struggles and experiences highlights the importance of mutual respect and understanding in relationships where partners come from different religious backgrounds.
